History
Outrigger Caloundra Canoe Club was formally established in 1997 by two founding members; Paul Terry and Paul Field. However, paddlers were based in Caloundra for many years before this.
Caloundra is well known for the challenging conditions associated with the bar between Bribie Island and Happy Valley and strong tidal currents in Pumicestone passage.
This oceanscape has shaped the culture of our club over the decades. The waves and tides have instilled a sense of both physical and mental resilience amongst our members and it has deepened our respect for the forces of nature.
Recognition
Outrigger Caloundra acknowledge the Gubbi Gubbi First Nation as the traditional owners of the land and waters that stretch from the regions of Caloundra to Gympie.
Canoes were an integral part of coastal living for the Gubbi Gubbi peoples who have been in the region for more than 30,000 years.
The members of Outrigger Caloundra are honoured to paddle in these same waters.
Governance
Outrigger Caloundra is dedicated to providing our members with a safe and fun environment to paddle, compete and socialise. Our Governance Framework has been reviewed annually since 2016 to help us maintain this environment.
